Valencia Open: Verdasco In, Monfils Out

Gael Monfils was upset by Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2, 7-5 in his second-round match of the Valencia Open.

Thanks to this loss Monfils saw that his chances to qualify for the London Finals are over. The Frenchman will enter next week’s BNP Paribas Masters but he is more than 1,000 Rankings points behind Fernando Verdasco, who is almost qualified for the event.

While Monfils is out in Valencia, Fernando Verdasco advanced to the second round of the Valencia Open with a win over Oscar Hernandez who was forced to retire with back injury while Fernando was leading 6-1 0-1.

Verdasco will next face Janko Tipsarevic, who defeated Victor Hanescu 6-4 6-3.
