Roger Federer into Basel's semifinals

Roger Federer reached the semifinals of Davidoff Swiss Indoors in Basel after scoring a 6-3, 6-2 win against Evgeny Korolev.

Federer will play against compatriot Marco Chiudinelli, a childhood friend, who beat Richard Gasquet 6-1, 6-3.

“It’s amazing to play Marco,” Federer said. “I’ve never played a really good friend on the tour. I’m looking forward to it.”

Federer, aiming for a fourth successive title in his hometown tournament, broke serve twice in each set against the world number 58, who was never really in the match.

Novak Djokovic was made it to the semifinals. The Serb battle past Stanislas Wawrinka 3-6 7-6 6-2 and he will meet Radek Stepanek for a place in the final.
